Towards a community-led ecological transition

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has“.

MARGARET MEAD

We are knowledgeable of Environment-Society interactions in Pastoral Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas as much as their potentials in socio-economic and cultural reinforcement through their Heritage enhancement. Our acronym emanates out of it: PICCAHers.

Research

Our main goal is to undertake the most holistic research possible about the multi-diverse interactions between humans and the environment in order to provide the most complete advice and facilitate solutions to the problems we are facing at both global and local scale, in the midst of the current global ecological transition through the local communities signification.

Community focus

We support and promote the local communities in the governance of socio-ecological systems, since we have empirically acknowledged their positive role in environmental conservation and developmental potentials when they make part of the governance process. They are key for global sustainability as they co-govern a fifth of the planet’s ecosystems.

Knowledge transfer

We aim to share the values of territorial and environmental community-based governance, participate to the international dialogue about these systems and contribute to solve their present problems with our trans-disciplinary knowledge building on these issues. In this way, we aim to favor concrete actions for positive socio-environmental and political changes.

About

We are a group of scientists and professionals from different backgrounds particularly focused on supporting and promoting the participation of local communities in the governance of socio-ecological systems.
